It is the convergence of Muslim Ummah that the Quran and Sunnah are basic principles of Islamic Jurisprudence. It is an undeniable reality that hadith was considered the primary source of Islamic law till the first century. The agony of denial of hadith was raised in the second century and the land of Iraq was its epicenter. The rebels started calling themselves the only perceiver of the Holy Quran. In Subcontinent the evil act of denial of hadith was the outcome of conspiracies hatched by British imperialism. The first skeptic was Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. He is considered a pioneer of the school of thought of denial of hadith. After that Maulvi Chirag Ali, Aslam Gerajpuri, and Abdullah Chikralvi followed in his footsteps. Then Ghulam Ahmad Pervaiz added fuel to fire. He also altered the meaning of the Holy Quran and denied the basic components of Islam. This article will discuss the background of the denial of hadith in the Subcontinent, its evolution, and implicit and explicit reasons.
